100 Movies before we move: #1
The story unfolds at a measured pace, enhancing the feeling of time and distance. The visual interpretations of space phenomena are wholly immersive and brilliant. Music full of pauses reminds you of just how alone these people are. Wonderfully directed. 9/10.
I have avoided this film, having heard negative comments about the final act. Those comments weren’t wrong, but it didn’t matter. This was a trip worth taking, and the imagination and ingenuity in describing and explaining theoretical concepts was simply amazing. Excellent effects, amazing attention to detail, fantastic deconstruction of the human condition with very realistic characters in an all too believable situation. The ending might have been hokey, but by that point it had earned it. A great start to our 100 movie mission. 9/10.
