Emmy says: This is an odd movie to watch, heavy on sparse conversations and flashbacks. Brilliant cast giving depth to their characters. The subdued tone of the movie did take away from any urgency that may have been created by the story. Definitely interesting 8/10.
Jeff says: I’m old enough to remember the Cold War, although not from when this was set. I also read the novel as a teenager. An excellent adaptation, the cast is outstanding. Le Carré wrote the character of George Smiley as an answer to James Bond – to more accurately represent the work of British spies at the time. A slow burn that requires attention to detail as it does not spell everything out to you. A thoughtful movie for thoughtful people. 9/10.
